Valérian is a PDRA at UCL, in Professor Rachel McKendry's group. He is currently involved in the mAfrica project, funded by a MRC Global Challenges Research Fund award, in partnership with the Africa Health Research Institute (AHRI) in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. He is coordinating the development of a smartphone app designed to increase access to testing for HIV, as well as linkage to care, in rural South Africa. The project is at the interface between point-of-care diagnostic tests design, machine learning tools for computer vision, and engagement with the local community and healthcare system.
Valérian completed his PhD at UCL with industrial partners OJ-Bio (Newcastle) in 2017. He worked on Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) sensors, with a focus on the understanding and development of a SAW-based biosensor for HIV. He studied Materials Science at Strasbourg University.
